Job summary

Wave is hiring Senior Software Engineers to join cross-functional teams delivering financial products at scale. You will write clear, well-tested code and collaborate with Engineers, PMs and Designers to solve challenging problems.

You’ll own major initiatives from definition through delivery and help maintain systems post-launch. The role requires 5+ years building production web apps with Python/Django and frontend React/TypeScript, plus experience with APIs, data modelling and observability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production web applications, including backend services in Python/Django (Ruby/Rails a strong plus).
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript; GraphQL/Apollo a plus.
• Experience integrating with third-party financial or payroll APIs; data in sync.
• Strong grasp of data modelling and source-of-truth design across multiple services.
• Experience finding and fixing performance bottlenecks.
• Hands-on with observability: Datadog metrics, traces and monitors, Terraform, and reducing alert noise.
• Has shipped changes with feature flags and staged rollouts; used analytics to judge releases.
• Writes clear technical docs; on-call outside standard hours is occasionally required.

You Thrive Here By Possessing the Following:

• 5+ years building production web applications, including backend services in Python/Django (Ruby/Rails a strong plus).
• Degree in Computer Science or related.
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript. GraphQL/Apollo a plus.
• Experience integrating with third-party financial or payroll APIs: webhooks, pagination, idempotency, retries and keeping data in sync.
• Strong grasp of data modelling and source-of-truth design across multiple services.
• Experience finding and fixing performance bottlenecks.
• Hands-on with observability: Datadog metrics, traces and monitors, monitors-as-code (Terraform) and reducing alert noise.
• Has shipped changes with feature flags and staged rollouts, and used analytics (e.g. Amplitude) to judge whether a release succeeded.
• Writes clear technical docs, such as design docs, runbooks and investigation write-ups.
• Nice to have: payroll, tax or fintech domain knowledge; event-driven systems (Kafka); careful handling of PII.
• Occasional requirement to be on-call outside of standard hours.

$115,000 - $125,000 a year

Final compensation is determined based on experience, expertise, and role alignment. Most candidates are hired within the middle of the range, with the upper end reserved for those bringing exceptional depth, impact, and immediate autonomy.
