$68.00/hr - $78.00/hr

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer – Automation

Location: Thousand Oaks, CA (Onsite)

Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time

Compensation: $68–$78 per hour (W2, based on experience)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and driven Senior Software Engineer – Automation to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of process control systems in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This is a fully onsite position based in Thousand Oaks, CA.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with PLCs, SCADA/HMI platforms, and a solid understanding of automation in biotech or pharmaceutical operations. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to major production and technology transfer initiatives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, and maintain automation software for process control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and HMI platforms
• Support manufacturing projects by integrating new equipment and process improvements into existing automation systems
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause investigations for equipment or system failures
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, and Facilities
• Generate and maintain engineering documentation such as user requirements, functional specifications, test protocols, and SOPs
• Implement and manage change controls in compliance with GMP and regulatory standards
• Support commissioning, qualification, and validation of equipment and control systems
• Ensure all automation activities are compliant with environmental health, safety, and regulatory requirements

Basic Qualifications

One of the following is required:

• Master’s degree and 2 years of directly related experience, or
• Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of directly related experience, or
• Associate’s degree and 8 years of directly related experience, or
• High school diploma/GED and 10 years of directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Biotech Engineering
• 5+ years of automation engineering experience in a GMP-regulated biotech or pharmaceutical environment
• Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation systems (FactoryTalk, ControlLogix PLCs)
• Familiarity with SCADA systems, HMI development, and control system integration
• Knowledge of process automation equipment such as filling lines, lyophilizers, CIP/SIP systems
• Experience with communication protocols such as OPC, Profibus, DeviceNet, and Ethernet/IP
• Strong understanding of GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and industry validation standards
• Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills
