Job summary

AMETEK is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain ORTEC software applications for Windows and embedded platforms. You will join cross-functional teams to advance product development while leveraging AI-assisted tools and secure coding practices.

This role requires strong C# and C++ proficiency, front-end and back-end experience, and collaboration across engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

• Eight or more years of professional software development experience.
• US Person (citizen or green card) due to ITAR projects.
• Strong proficiency in C# and C++.
• Proficiency with Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web app development.
• Experience building responsive UIs for scientific, industrial, or enterprise software.
• Experience integrating front-end with REST and gRPC-based backends.
• Understanding of frontend architecture, state management, component design, and UI/UX best practices.
• Experience with Azure DevOps for source control, work item management, build automation, release management, and CI/CD.
• Familiarity with SSDF, secure coding standards, cybersecurity best practices.
• Understanding authentication, encryption, certificate management, vulnerability remediation, and secure communications.
• Ability to use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Copilot) and evaluate AI-generated outputs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain Windows desktop and service-based applications.
• Design, develop, and maintain service-oriented and distributed software architectures using gRPC and REST APIs.
• Translate requirements into scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
• Participate in architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and technical planning.
• Develop software interfacing with ORTEC instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

• Maintain technical requirements, design documentation, and test artifacts.

• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining ORTEC software applications targeting Microsoft Windows and embedded platforms. This role supports software modernization and product development initiatives while collaborating with product management and cross-functional engineering teams. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to effectively leverage AI-assisted development tools while applying independent engineering judgement to validate accuracy, maintainability, security, and architectural sustainability of AI-generated recommendations.

The Senior Software Engineer Will

• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain Windows desktop and service-based applications.
• Design, develop, and maintain service-oriented and distributed software architectures using modern communication frameworks such as gRPC and REST APIs.
• Translate requirements into scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
• Participate in architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and technical planning.
• Develop software interfacing with ORTEC instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
• Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, quality, and customer support.

The Senior Software Engineer Will Have

• Bachelor's degree (BS) from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or similar fields of study
• Eight (8) or more years of professional software development experience required.
• Due to potential work on ITAR products and projects, applicants must be a U.S. Person (citizen or green card holder)
• Strong proficiency in C# and C++.
• Proficiency with Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web application development.
• Experience building responsive and maintainable user interfaces for scientific, industrial, or enterprise software applications.
• Experience in integrating front-end applications with REST and gRPC-based backend services.
• Understanding of frontend architecture, state management, component design, and UI/UX best practices.
• Experience with Azure DevOps for source control, work item management, build automation, release management, and CI/CD pipeline implementation.
• Familiarity with Secure Software Development Frameworks (SSDF), secure coding standards, software supply chain security, and cybersecurity best practices.
• Understanding application security concepts including authentication, authorization, encryption, certificate management, vulnerability remediation, and secure communications.
• Ability to effectively utilize AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar technologies to improve engineering productivity.
• Ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated code, designs, documentation, and recommendations.
• Understanding of the strengths, limitations, security implications, and potential risks of AI-assisted software development.
• Experience applying AI tools to software design, coding, debugging, testing, code reviews, and technical documentation.
