Job summary

Rhino + Jetty is hiring a software engineer to design scalable, reliable systems and write high-quality code with AI assistance. You will participate in design reviews, help size work with product managers, and ship features with strong security practices across our stack.

Qualified candidates bring 5–10 years building production-grade software, strong Ruby on Rails, Python, JavaScript, and React experience, and a willingness to learn across the stack in a dynamic, regulated fintech-adjacent

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of experience building production-grade, high-volume software systems.
• Proficient coding experience in Ruby on Rails, Python, JavaScript, React; open to new tech.
• Full-stack capability or willingness to learn across stack.
• Experience with AI tools to accelerate engineering work (Claude, ChatGPT Codex).
• Experience with microservices, caching, performance, monitoring, and scalability.
• Experience with Postgres and data modeling.
• Experience with Git and GitHub.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions; Semaphore).
• Familiarity with AWS technologies (ECS, S3, RDS).
• Willingness to become domain SME in a highly regulated industry.
• Enthusiasm, curiosity, and adaptability in a startup atmosphere.

Our technology removes friction from the move-in process, lowers upfront costs for renters, and helps property managers make faster, more accurate decisions. We pioneered security deposit insurance and continue to push the industry forward with a growing suite of products — from deposit management to lease guarantees and loss-of-employment protection. In this role, you will:

The candidates we’re looking for generally have most of the following:

• 5-10 years of experience in building production-grade, high-volume software systems
• Professional coding experience (e.g. Ruby on Rails, Python, Javascript, React) with the willingness to recommend and adopt new technologies as necessary
• Full-stack experience or willingness and ability to learn across the stack
• Experience working with AI tools to accelerate your engineering work (e.g. Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex)
• Experience with server-side concepts (microservices, caching, performance, monitoring and scalability)
• Experience with modern databases (e.g. Postgres) and appropriate application-side data modeling
• Experience with modern source control tools (git + GitHub)
• Understanding of CI/CD build/deployment tools (e.g. GitHub Actions; Semaphore)
• Familiarity with AWS cloud technologies (e.g. ECS, S3, RDS, etc)
• Willingness to become domain subject matter experts in a highly regulated industry
• Enthusiasm, curiosity, and the flexibility to thrive in a start-up atmosphere of constant change and growth
• Ability to use AI tools and your own creativity to tackle new challenges

These aren’t required but are a big plus:

• Experience working in Fintech, Insurance, Banking or other similar financial services
• Prior professional experience in Ruby / Ruby on Rails
• Exposure to data pipeline tooling (e.g. Fivetran, dbt)
• Early/mid-stage startup experience

Compensation & Benefits:

Base Salary Range: $160,000 - $200,000

Rhino + Jetty has partnered with a number of compensation benchmarking tools to determine competitive and fair market pay bands for our size and stage. Our goal is to ensure each employee is paid equitably and competitively while also maintaining a consistent and standardized methodology.

Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors including qualifications for the role, experience level and balancing internal equity relative to other teammates.

Base salary is just one part of our Total Rewards Package here at R + J.
