Location: New York, NY, US (Fully Remote)

Job Type: Full-Time

Overview and Responsibilities:

Paramount is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team! In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale data streaming applications using Kafka, Java, Data warehouses (BigQuery or Oracle Autonomous), and other cloud native tech stacks! As a key member of the applied intelligence engineering team, you will be responsible for building scalable, fault-tolerant, and performant systems that can handle high volumes of real-time data streams.

Responsibilities:

1. Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data streaming applications using Kafka, Java, BigQuery, and K8s
2. Develop and implement Kafka-based architectures for event-driven systems, including topic design, partitioning, and replication.
3. Craft and develop data ingestion pipelines using Apache Flink, Apache Beam, KStream, or similar technologies to process large volumes of real-time data streams
4. Integrate BigQuery with Kafka and Pub/Sub messaging systems to enable real-time analytics and reporting
5. Monitor system performance, address issues, and perform regular maintenance tasks to ensure high availability and scalability
6. Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and other specialists to define requirements, design solutions, and implement changes to data streaming applications
7. Engage in code reviews, support junior engineers, and assist in crafting the company's coding standards

Basic Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
2. 6+ years of experience in software engineering, focusing on data streaming applications
3. Proficient in Kafka architecture, design, and implementation
4. Proficient in Java

Additional Qualifications:

1. Hands-on knowledge of BigQuery integration with Kafka and Pub/Sub messaging systems.
2. Experience in one or more of the following: Spring Boot, Spark Streaming, Apache Flink, and Apache Beam
3. Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms, including streaming data processing concepts
4. Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, and OCI, focusing on scalability and high availability
