Job summary

Harnham's Enterprise Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated software engineer to partner with treasury, accounting and middle office professionals. You will design and own production-grade platforms used by the firm's core operations, delivering end-to-end solutions that scale and perform in a fast-paced financial environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• Production-level software experience in Python
• Experience with an object-oriented language (e.g., Java or C#)
• Experience with at least one financial asset class
• Experience with SQL databases
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Collaborative team player with strong verbal communication skills
• 4+ years of experience in the financial industry (buy side preferred)
• Experience with AI-assisted coding in production
• Product knowledge in the Equity or Fixed Income asset class

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain the key software solutions supporting the firm's core teams, with a clear focus on performance, scalability and reliability.
• Own the full development process. Work closely with stakeholders to understand the problem, create a strategy of execution, and deliver thoroughly tested and elegant solutions.
• Partner with Treasury, Fund Accounting, Middle Office, Investor Relations and Compliance professionals. Translate ambiguous business requirements into working systems and push back where the stated ask is not the real problem.
• Collaborate with engineers across the technology function and the wider firm to tackle complex technical challenges and contribute to shared architectural standards.

The Enterprise Engineering team provides technology solutions for all of the core groups within our client. We’re looking for a highly motivated software engineer with a passion for technology and markets. You’ll partner with our treasury, accounting, middle office professionals, as well as other teams across the firm to deliver cutting edge solutions to interesting problems. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional problem-solving skills, a collaborative mentality, and an ability to bring innovative ideas to life.

The Role

This is a hands-on build role inside Enterprise Engineering. You will design and own the software platforms the firm's core operational teams depend on daily, working directly with the business to define the problem and delivering production-grade solutions end to end.

You will focus on:

• Production software engineering in Python plus an object-oriented language
• End-to-end ownership from requirements through to tested release
• Performance, scalability and reliability across firmwide systems
• Direct stakeholder partnership with Treasury, Middle Office, Fund Accounting, IR and Compliance
• Broad asset class and operational exposure across a derivatives-led fund

Responsibilities

Software Delivery

Design, build and maintain the key software solutions supporting the firm's core teams, with a clear focus on performance, scalability and reliability. Create software that empowers decision making across the firm's investment strategies.

End-to-End Ownership

Own the full development process. Work closely with stakeholders to understand the problem, create a strategy of execution, and deliver thoroughly tested and elegant solutions.

Stakeholder Partnership

Partner with Treasury, Fund Accounting, Middle Office, Investor Relations and Compliance professionals. Translate ambiguous business requirements into working systems and push back where the stated ask is not the real problem.

Collaborate with engineers across the technology function and the wider firm to tackle complex technical challenges and contribute to shared architectural standards.

Our future colleague has these skills:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• Experience in building production level software in Python
• Experience with an object-oriented language such as Java or C#.
• Experience working with at least one financial asset class
• Experience with SQL databases
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Collaborative team player with strong verbal communication skills
• 4+ years working experience in the financial industry (buy side preferred)
• Industry experience in similar roles is a strong plus.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding in a production environment.
