Job summary

Talener is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the trading platforms team in NYC. You will design and build low-latency, high-availability systems for real-time market data and order routing.

Work with Java and Python, distributed systems, and CI/CD in an Agile environment. You’ll optimize performance, reliability, and scalability, collaborating with product teams and stakeholders to power electronic trading platforms.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java and Python.
• Strong object-oriented design and software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, Solace, RabbitMQ, JMS.
• 2-3 years of PostgreSQL experience; strong SQL skills.
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito or similar testing frameworks.
• Strong Linux experience; CI/CD experience.
• Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with SDLC and Agile methodologies.
• Experience with Maven or Gradle build tools.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team responsible for building and enhancing mission-critical trading and market connectivity systems. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers while gaining exposure to financial markets, market data, and electronic trading technologies. Salary based on experience, targeting $150k-$175k.

Responsibilities

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java and Python.
• Strong object-oriented design and software engineering fundamentals.
• Deep understanding of Java, including:
• Multithreading-Concurrency-Collections-Exception Handling-Performance optimization
• Experience building systems using messaging technologies such as:
• Kafka-Solace-RabbitMQ-JMS-Similar messaging platforms
• Strong SQL skills and 2-3 years of PostgreSQL experience, including:
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing frameworks.
• Strong Linux experience, including:
• Experience working within CI/CD environments.
• Strong Git experience and understanding of collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with SDLC best practices and Agile methodologies.
• Experience using Maven, Gradle, or similar build tools.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and passionate about learning new technologies.
• Ability to work effectively within a high-performing engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience integrating with third-party platforms and services.
• Cloud experience with AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, or ELK.
• Exposure to real-time transaction processing systems, market data platforms, or financial technology environments.
• Knowledge of FIX Protocol or other financial messaging standards is a plus.
