Job summary

Human Interest is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in New York to build industry‑first retirement products for employers and participants. You will work with domain experts to design, implement, test, and improve features across scalable services while ensuring reliability and auditability.

You'll mentor peers, communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and leverage AI coding assistants to accelerate development.

Qualifications

• Desire to work with Node, TypeScript, Kotlin, React, AWS, PostgreSQL, Kafka.
• Proactive and empathetic mindset with customer focus.
• Enjoy mentoring engineers and reviewing code carefully.
• Strong communication skills with engineers and non-engineers.
• Willingness to learn, think creatively, and share knowledge.
• Past experience in startups and/or fintech.
• Experience with AI coding assistants to speed development and improve quality.
• 6+ years of production software experience.

Job description

• As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build industry-first products that make retirement accounts simple and easy for employers to support and participants to use
• You will collaborate with domain experts to design, build and test new features and systems. As reliability and auditability is key to earning our customers’ trust, you will build robust systems that are observable, maintainable, and scalable

• Design, build, and maintain our user experiences for both external and internal customers
• Work on business-critical, foundational services which serve as the data funnel of our entire platform
• Improve complex processes and systems to make them more robust and require less human intervention
• Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to share knowledge and build expertise
• Develop ownership over domains in our system and make informed engineering tradeoffs
• Advocate for and delight internal and external users
• Direct AI agents across the full development lifecycle, from prototyping and implementation to debugging and code review. Operate as the architect and decision-maker while AI handles the building
• Expand what’s possible with AI tooling and identify opportunities to automate repetitive engineering work, improve code quality through AI-driven review, and share effective patterns with your team
