Overview

Impact As our Senior Engineer in Birmingham, Minneapolis, or working remotely, you will build, manage, and enhance shopper payments systems and compliance services powered by Geo spatial foundation capabilities.

Responsibilities

You will work on a team of 5‑6 engineers to design, develop, test, deploy and maintain application code using Golang, Python, Redis, Postgres, and Kafka in a microservices architecture.

You will collaborate with our product and operation teams to solve challenges in market clearance, supply chain, pricing platform, and new ventures.

You are expected to take ownership of production services, ensuring their reliability and performance, and participate in an on‑call production support rotation.

Qualifications

You have 5+ years of software development experience with a programming language like Golang (preferred), Python, Java, or C/C++.

You have experience designing, developing, testing (unit/integration), deploying, and maintaining backend REST API services with a strong focus on performance and latency.

You are comfortable working with SQL databases (Postgres preferred) and can write SQL queries.

You actively participate in the design process to build efficient, scalable, and maintainable architecture.

You have experience diagnosing and solving complex technical problems and performance bottlenecks using data.

You collaborate effectively with engineering, product managers, and partner teams to deliver impactful solutions.

You are self‑driven, outcome‑oriented, and passionate about learning, mentoring, and helping others grow.

You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Technical Skills

• Backend development with Golang, Python, Java, or C/C++
• Microservices architecture using Kafka, Redis, Postgres, and cloud services (GCP)
• REST API design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
• SQL database design, querying, and performance tuning
• Git version control, CI/CD fundamentals, and unit test writing
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) and designing secure orchestration layers

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

Pay Range

$95,800 – $170,000 (may vary by qualifications, skill level, and location)

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, offering flexibility to work from home with leader approval or at a Shipt office.
