Job description

Overview

Advanced Drainage Systems is a leading manufacturer of stormwater and onsite septic wastewater solutions, committed to sustainability and innovation. With a vast manufacturing and distribution network, we deliver high-quality products across multiple industries while recycling over half a billion pounds of plastic annually. At ADS, we foster a culture where diverse perspectives drive better ideas, ensuring every employee feels valued, heard, and empowered to make an impact.

Responsibilities

We're looking for aSenior Software Engineerwho combines deep software fundamentals with fluency in building and working alongside AI agents. You'll use AI to design, build, modernize, and operate reliable, scalable full-stack applications on the Microsoft stack — C#/.NET on the backend and TypeScript/React on the front end — creating high-quality software faster. As a senior engineer, you'll own complex projects end-to-end, raise the engineering bar across the team, and mentor others in both strong fundamentals and the effective use of AI in software development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain applications across the Microsoft stack — C#/.NET on the backend and TypeScript/React on the front end.
  • Integrate applications with enterprise and external systems (e.g., Oracle, MuleSoft) through well-designed RESTful APIs.
  • Direct AI coding agents to implement, test, and refactor features, while owning the design decisions and the quality of what ships.
  • Build and maintain the team's AI-native tooling: custom instructions, prompt files, custom agents, and Agent Skills.
  • Apply context engineering and multi-agent workflows to assemble the right context and guardrails for reliable, production-ready code.
  • Review AI-generated and human-written code for correctness, security, performance, and architectural integrity.
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, and deploy to Microsoft Azure (App Service, Entra ID, Key Vault, Application Insights).
  • Ensure the security, performance, and scalability of web applications across the stack.
  • Participate in and lead code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.
  • Mentor engineers in both software fundamentals and AI-native practices, and keep up with new tools and practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including senior-level ownership of projects end-to-end.
  • Strong proficiency in C# and .NET (ASP.NET Core), including Clean Architecture, Entity Framework Core, and dependency injection.
  • Strong proficiency in front-end development with TypeScript and React, including state management (Redux Toolkit) and modern build tooling (Vite).
  • Hands-on experience working in an AI-native way: using custom instructions, prompt files, custom agents, and Agent Skills; orchestrating multi-agent workflows; and applying context engineering.
  • Experience with cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure (App Service, Entra ID, Key Vault, Application Insights).
  • Knowledge of database management systems, particularly SQL Server.
  • Understanding of RESTful API design and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including GitHub Actions and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in version control systems, particularly Git and GitHub.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., xUnit, Jest, Playwright).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication and collaboration.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience extending AI tooling — building custom agents, Agent Skills, or Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations that other engineers rely on.
  • Spec-driven development — authoring clear, testable specifications that drive AI agents to implement, verify, and iterate on features.
  • Application modernization — re-platforming and incrementally modernizing legacy applications onto current .NET, cloud, and Clean Architecture standards.
  • DevSecOps — embedding automation, quality, and security across the delivery lifecycle: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and reliable release strategies (blue-green/canary).
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or supply chain-domain experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Creative Problem Solving: Solve complex technical challenges and apply technology, including AI, to novel business problems.
  • Rapid Delivery: Quickly build, iterate on, and ship production-quality software, increasingly with AI assistance.
  • Engineering Judgment: Make sound architectural decisions and critically evaluate AI-generated output for correctness, security, and quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product managers, designers, and business partners to align solutions with user needs.
  • Technical Communication: Explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentorship: Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • User-Centric Design: Build software that augments users and improves their experience.
