Job summary

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence in Camarillo (remote options) seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design, implement, and optimize the NC code generation engine using modern C++. You will tackle numerically sensitive geometry problems, pair with senior engineers, and contribute to a codebase where correctness directly affects machine instructions.

Strong communication and a passion for math are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with modern C++ (C++11 or later).
  • 5+ years of professional C++ software development experience.
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
  • Working knowledge of 3D math fundamentals (vectors, matrices, transforms).
  • Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguous or sparsely documented code with patience and curiosity.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test features and enhancements in the NC code generation engine and its immediate dependencies.
  • Investigate and resolve defects in numerically sensitive, geometry-driven code, exercising judgment on when a quick patch is appropriate versus when a deeper fix is warranted.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests for code where correctness is difficult to verify by inspection alone.
  • Participate actively in code reviews - both receiving feedback and, as you grow in the role, reviewing others' work for logic, standards, and numerical correctness.
  • Collaborate with QA and product teams to translate manufacturing/CAM requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Document your growing understanding of the system as you build it, contributing to the team's collective knowledge rather than keeping it individually.

Job description

Summary

Senior Software Engineer - C++, NC Programming & Applied Geometry

Location: Camarillo / Remote

Team: ESPRIT EDGE

About the Role

We're looking for a senior software engineer who enjoys working close to math: numerically precise, performance-sensitive C++ code that solves real-world geometric and manufacturing problems. You'll join the team that builds the engine responsible for generating machine-ready NC (numerical control) code - the software that turns a CAD design and a toolpath into instructions a CNC machine can run.

This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership from early on. You'll ramp up by pairing with senior members of the team, working through real defects and features, and building deep fluency in a codebase where correctness genuinely matters - a subtle bug here doesn't just crash a program, it can produce an incorrect machining instruction.

Job Responsibilities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with modern C++ (C++11 or later) - comfortable reading, reasoning about, and safely modifying dense, performance-sensitive code written by others.
  • 5+ years of professional C++ software development experience.
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
  • Working knowledge of 3D math fundamentals (vectors, matrices, transforms). Deep geometry expertise is not required on day one - willingness and aptitude to learn it is.
  • Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguous or sparsely documented code with patience and curiosity.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in CAD/CAM, CNC/G-code, or manufacturing software - a strong plus, but we are equally interested in candidates from adjacent math-heavy C++ domains.
  • Computational geometry (NURBS, B-rep, surface/curve intersection) or 3D graphics/visualization (OpenGL, DirectX, or similar).
  • Background in game/graphics engines, robotics or motion planning, physics/numerical simulation, scientific computing - any of these translate well.
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and modern CI/CD practices.
What We're Looking For
  • Genuine interest in going deep in one demanding technical domain rather than breadth-first tooling work.
  • Comfort with a deliberate ramp-up period - asking questions, taking notes, and building judgment over time rather than expecting full autonomy on day one.
  • A collaborative mindset and openness to learning directly from experienced teammates.
  • Comfortable incorporating AI-assisted coding tools into the workflow where they're useful.
  • At Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, our spirited energy and engagement are evident in our commitment to our work, passion for what we do and the speed by which we achieve it. Here you will find the opportunity to build your career, develop professionally, and explore opportunities across a large, diversified company that prides itself on its innovative spirit and commitment to integrity.
  • We strive to attract the most talented and dynamic individuals in their fields because our success is in our people! Our culture encourages independent thinking and a team mentality. And we offer a competitive benefits package that's second to none!
Benefits
  • Exceptional Medical, Dental, Vision insurances
  • Health Savings Accounts with employer contribution (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • 401k Plan with generous employer match
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Tuition Reimbursement
