Job description

How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

At Delta, weconnect people and cultures, power extraordinary experiences, and shape the future of travel. Here, you’ll work on complex challenges ona global scale, using augmented intelligence to build emergingtechnologies, amplify human potential and continuously grow the skills thatkeep you at the forefront of what’s next.

Technology drives the innovation that enriches our customers' experience, and the FlyDelta mobile app is where millions of travelers meet that experience every day. We’re looking for an App Developer who builds for that scale and wants to shape how our team works, not just what we ship.

This role sits at the front of how we’re modernizing development: using AI to drive spec-driven design, turning clear requirements into well-architected, production-ready code. If you’re energized by pairing strong mobile engineering fundamentals with emerging AI-assisted workflows, and you want your work in the hands of customers on every Delta journey, the stage is ripe for disruption. We’re calling on thought-leaders ready to create meaningful, innovative solutions that help us realize our vision.

Responsibilities
  • Drive spec-driven, AI-accelerated development. Turn clear, well-formed requirements into production-ready code, using AI to accelerate design, generation, and review while staying fully accountable for the architecture and the outcome. Treat specs as living contracts, keeping requirements, design, and implementation in sync so the team moves fast without losing sight of why a feature exists.
  • Write resilient, secure, quality-first code. Deliver code that degrades gracefully and recovers cleanly, anticipating failure modes so a single dependency never grounds the experience. Put automation at the forefront for continuous quality with Test-Driven Development as a central practice, and adhere to information security best practices at every layer.
  • Build a flexible, event-driven, server-driven app. Architect the FlyDelta mobile app so new features and journeys ship without a full release cycle and adapt to customers in real time. Leverage server-driven UI and API solutions to deliver dynamic features, balancing on-device and cloud data for high performance across millions of end customers.
  • Bring deep mobile and cloud-native expertise. Apply expert skill in mobile technologies (Android, Kotlin, Java, Node.js) and cloud-native technologies (AWS) with a strong command of design patterns, continually growing your expertise and staying current on industry practices. Familiarity with iOS, Swift, XCUI, SwiftUI, and AI prompting is a strong plus.
  • Own outcomes and lift the team. Stay solution-oriented and forward-leaning, operate with integrity and trust, admit mistakes, and present the unvarnished truth helpfully. Work as a true team member who mentors, transfers knowledge, and defines success in terms of the whole squad.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • Highly skilled in mobile technologies across both iOS (Swift, XCUI, SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin, Java) platforms, with an expert understanding of design patterns.
  • Proficient in AI spec-driven design, turning clear, well-formed requirements into production-ready code and using AI to accelerate design, generation, and review while remaining accountable for the architecture and outcome.
  • Quality development practices with automation at the forefront for continuous quality and Test-Driven Development as a central practice.
  • Ability to build secure apps that adhere to best practices for information security.
  • Ability to build high-performing apps focused on a balance of data stored in app vs. servers to interact for end consumers, and continuous focus on improvement of performance.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud-native technologies, including designing or consuming APIs to deliver flexible, dynamic app features.
  • Technical Expertise - Involves demonstrating a commitment to increasing knowledge and skills in current technical/functional area, keeping up to date on technical developments, staying informed as to industry practices, and knowing how to apply relevant technical processes to appropriate business needs.

  • Proficiency with Java and Node.js.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training in the computer systems development field. Previous airline experience not required, but helpful.
  • Communication skills - The ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and management, capable of successful formal and informal communication, speaks and writes clearly and understandably for the audience.
  • Integrity and Trust - Involves being widely trusted, being seen as a direct, truthful individual, can present the unvarnished truth in an appropriate and helpful manner, keeps confidences, admits mistakes, and does not misrepresent him/herself for personal gain.

  • Curiosity - Knowledge and experience with new and upcoming technologies, tools and trends.
  • Learning Culture - Creating a culture that inspires continuous individual, team, and systems improvements in the interests of improving all of these to serve the overall user’s experience.
