Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Developer – Scrum Master to support modernization of national aviation systems through cloud-native Java development and SAFe Agile leadership. The role combines hands-on engineering with team facilitation in a regulated environment.

The position is hybrid with 3 days onsite in Gaithersburg, MD, 2 days remote, and may require collaboration across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience); Master's degree with 6+ years also considered
• 5+ years of experience developing, testing, and supporting production Java applications
• 2+ years of experience serving as a Scrum Master within a SAFe Agile environment
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, RESTful APIs, microservices, JSON, XML, and XSD
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, Git, Linux, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices
• Experience with frontend technologies including React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, review, deploy, and maintain production-quality Java-based cloud-native microservices and APIs
• Serve as Scrum Master for an Agile development team, facilitating sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and PI planning activities
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Release Train Engineers, and cross-functional teams to manage dependencies, resolve blockers, and ensure successful delivery outcomes
• Support DevSecOps initiatives through CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, and modern software development best practices
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and enhance complex distributed systems operating in highly regulated, mission-critical environments

This position is hybrid, requiring onsite support in Gaithersburg, MD; Eagan, MN; or Egg Harbor Township, NJ (3 days onsite, 2 days remote). The Senior Software Developer – Scrum Master will split responsibilities between hands‑on software engineering and Agile team leadership, supporting the development of cloud-native applications while facilitating Scrum ceremonies and driving SAFe Agile delivery. Compensation for the Senior Software Developer – Scrum Master include:

Salary Range: Up to $140.50/hour depending on experience
