Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin School of Law seeks a Senior Software Developer/Analyst to design, develop, test, and maintain websites and software applications across the full development stack, with emphasis on WordPress. You will work across front-end and back-end components, applying secure coding practices and collaborating with stakeholders.

Purpose

Work within the Law Technology Services web team to design, develop, test, and maintain Law School websites and software applications across the full development stack, with expertise in WordPress. Develops and provides reports as requested by stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, and maintains responsive websites and applications, working across front-end and back-end components while collaborating closely with the members of the web team, the Law School Communications and Marketing office, and other stakeholders. Performs quality assurance (QA) testing during staging and after deployment, identifying and resolving cross-browser issues and other defects.
• Develops and performs maintenance on the Law School's WordPress Multisite installation, including custom Site Editor themes and plugins using PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, using clean, reusable code and following modern development practices. Keeps WordPress core and plugins current and secure.
• Fields incoming website-related help requests from Law School faculty, staff, and students, troubleshooting issues and connecting requesters with the right solution or resource.
• Stays current on standards and trends in web development, including HTML, CSS, scripting languages, browser compatibility, and accessibility, and actively pursues new skills to keep pace with evolving web technology.
• Other related responsibilities, functions, and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of web or related software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Familiarity with data security and privacy best practices.
• Advanced experience with PHP and JavaScript.
• Experience with WordPress custom theme and plugin development.
• Practical knowledge of relational databases and use of SQL.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Experience with PHP frameworks (especially Laravel) and JavaScript frameworks and libraries (e.g., VueJS, React, etc.), distributed version control workflows (e.g., git), and working with MySQL and Oracle SQL databases.
• Understanding of Unix-based infrastructure, web server technology, and shell scripting.
• Experience in higher education or similarly complex institutional environments with distributed stakeholders, shared governance, and regulatory requirements (FERPA, WCAG/ADA).

Salary Range

$90,000 + depending on qualifications

Employment Eligibility

Retirement Plan Eligibility

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
