This role will lead the development of production applications and emerging AI capabilities while helping establish strong engineering practices, improve system reliability, and build technical depth across the development team.

Working across a modern technology environment that includes custom applications, enterprise systems, data platforms, integrations, and connected equipment, the Senior Software Developer will collaborate closely with IT and business teams to deliver practical, scalable solutions. This position requires the ability to work across multiple technical disciplines, understand how technology supports day‑to‑day operations, and translate business needs into effective software solutions.

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain production applications and services across Apex’s technology environment, including mobile applications, backend APIs, microservices, databases, and AI‑enabled solutions.
  • Develop and support integrations between custom applications, ERP systems, data platforms, connected equipment, and third‑party APIs using technologies such as React Native, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, Azure SQL, Azure Functions, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure IoT Hub.
  • Lead the transition of AI solutions from prototype or externally developed concepts into scalable, reliable, and maintainable production applications.
  • Design and develop AI‑enabled solutions and agents that integrate with business systems, data, and workflows to improve efficiency and automate business processes.
  • Establish and promote software engineering standards and best practices, including application design, code reviews, testing, continuous integration and delivery, database migrations, release management, and operational documentation.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other developers through code reviews, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and hands‑on development support.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across the technology stack, identifying root causes and implementing solutions that improve performance and reliability.
  • Partner with business departments and other IT disciplines to understand workflows, systems, data, and operational needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Work across development, data, ERP, integrations, and other IT functions as business priorities and technology needs evolve.
  • Communicate technical concepts, system capabilities, limitations, risks, and trade‑offs clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate solutions to end users and stakeholders, gather feedback, and incorporate business needs into ongoing development and enhancements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation that supports system maintainability, troubleshooting, knowledge transfer, and business continuity.
  • Adhere to and support all company safety policies and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Seven (7) or more years of professional software development experience, including significant experience developing, deploying, and supporting production applications.
  • Hands‑on experience developing and deploying applications within Microsoft Azure, including experience with cloud application services, serverless computing, databases, identity management, and monitoring.
  • Experience developing or implementing AI‑enabled applications, including technologies such as retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, workflow orchestration, prompt and tool design, and solution evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database design, including schema management, migrations, and query performance.
  • Proficiency with Git, pull‑request workflows, continuous integration, and automated testing practices.
  • Experience designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs across multiple applications and business systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work on‑site in St. Michael, Minnesota and travel occasionally to other Apex facilities and customer locations.
