Job summary

Sceye is seeking an experienced Software Architect to define and evolve the software architecture powering its stratospheric High-Altitude Platform Station fleet. This role owns the technical vision across avionics, ground systems, mission operations, and data platforms, ensuring scalable, reliable software.

You will work with engineering leadership to translate mission requirements into long-lived architecture, mentor engineers, and drive modernization across multiple teams while considering

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 10+ years software engineering with 3+ years in tech leadership.
• Proven experience designing large-scale distributed real-time systems.
• Deep expertise in Python, Go, C++, Java, or similar.
• Cloud proficiency (AWS/Azure/GCP) and microservices.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain software architecture across flight, ground, and mission systems.
• Set technical direction and coding standards for distributed teams.
• Evaluate tech stacks to support scale and reliability.
• Lead architecture reviews and design documentation for major systems.
• Translate mission and safety requirements into software design.
• Design fault-tolerant real-time systems for command and control.
• Mentor engineers on architecture and system health.
• Drive build-vs-buy and edge vs cloud tradeoffs.
• Identify technical debt and modernization initiatives.
• Participate in incident reviews for mission-critical systems.
