Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Architect SME to support NASA's White Sands Complex in Las Cruces, NM. This role will lead the architecture review, documentation, and modernization of a large-scale legacy ground system codebase supporting NASA Space Relay network operations.

The right candidate brings deep experience with legacy systems and a track record of leading technical teams through complex software recoveries in a government program environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/SE with 8+ years of experience; advanced degree preferred.
• Active Secret clearance and US citizenship required.
• Experience reading and reverse-engineering legacy code in C/C++/Fortran/Ada.
• Experience leading formal architecture reviews in government or NASA programs.
• Proficient in Linux/Unix development environments and version control.

Responsibilities

• Co-lead the Architecture Definition Review for a 35-year legacy system.
• Develop and update architecture documentation for sustainment.
• Mentor engineers through modernization and AI-assisted workflows.
• Define and implement development processes, toolchains, and CI/CD.
• Drive Agile practices including sprint planning and Definition of Done.
• Coordinate with NASA task monitors on progress and gates.
• Maintain evolving technical documentation as a living knowledge base.
