Lumen is seeking a Principal Software Architect to lead the Digital Journey Architecture and Solutions team. You will apply formal architecture practices, design patterns, and AI-augmented approaches to complex multi-system problems, guiding delivery from design to production.

The role emphasizes breadth over domain depth, mentoring teams, and collaborating with cloud and security partners to ensure robust, scalable systems.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software architecture experience or an equivalent combination.
• AI-first practitioner actively integrating AI tools as a routine part of architecture work.
• Demonstrated examples of how AI has accelerated or improved engineering outcomes.
• Formal education or structured architecture practice exposure.

Responsibilities

• Apply architecture principles to DJAS design work: microservices, event-driven, and API-first patterns.
• Lead architecture design sessions and reviews; surface tradeoffs and address non-functional requirements.
• Define governance practices to determine when a design is ready to ship.
• Evaluate and adopt modern architecture patterns beyond existing practices.
• Apply AI-augmented engineering practices in system designs with safety and observability.
• Architect for operational excellence including observability and resilience.
• Bridge architecture with implementation; verify delivery aligns with design intent.
• Mentor architects and engineers on fundamentals, patterns, and rigorous thinking.
• Collaborate with cloud, security, and domain architects to address cross-cutting concerns.
