Job summary

Lumen seeks a Principal Software Architect to lead DJAS architectural excellence across AI-enabled, multi-system designs. The role emphasizes breadth, formal architecture practices, and the application of pattern-driven design to complex problems in a remote US-wide context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field required.
• Experience in software architecture with 12+ years for alternatives; advanced degree preferred.
• Demonstrated AI tool usage integrated into architecture and engineering work.

Responsibilities

• Apply proven software architecture principles to DJAS design work: microservices, event-driven patterns, distributed systems, API-first design, domain-driven design.
• Lead architecture design sessions and reviews, ensure Non-Functional Requirements are met from the start, produce ADRs and integration specifications.
• Define architecture governance and ensure standards are applied consistently.
• Evaluate modern architecture patterns and adopt AI-augmented engineering practices.
• Architect for operational excellence: observability, chaos engineering readiness, runbook-aligned failure handling.
• Bridge architecture and implementation: stay involved through delivery and surface gaps early.
• Mentor architects and engineers on architecture fundamentals, patterns, and design rigor.
• Collaborate with cloud, IAM/security, and domain architects on cross-cutting concerns.
• Challenge technical debt patterns to promote conscious design decisions.
