Job summary

Amazon Quick is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the design and architecture of large, customer-facing features for Quick, spanning user experiences to distributed services and cloud infrastructure on AWS.

You will mentor engineers, set technical direction, and collaborate with product managers and senior leaders to turn ambiguous problems into actionable milestones. This role is based in Santa Clara, CA, with high visibility and enterprise-scale impact.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and architecture of large, customer-facing features for Amazon Quick, from the user experience to the distributed services and cloud infrastructure behind them.
• Decide what to build with product managers and senior leaders, and turn ambiguous problems into clear technical plans and milestones.
• Design highly available, scalable, and secure distributed systems on AWS, and make sound trade-offs between speed, cost, and quality.
• Drive engineering best practices across the team, including design reviews, code reviews, testing, operational excellence, and documentation.
• Own the operational health of your systems, and lead deep dives into the hardest production issues.
• Use generative AI tools in your daily work, and help improve the quality and reliability of AI-powered features.
• Mentor engineers and help grow the next generation of technical leaders on the team.
