Senior Snowflake/DBT Data Engineer
Senior - Contract - India - Fully remote
Work Arrangement: Fully remote
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a Senior Snowflake/DBT Data Engineer. The role requires a hands‑on engineer with deep Snowflake and dbt transformation experience, strong SQL and Python skills, and a solid understanding of data warehousing and modelling techniques. You will build and optimise ELT pipelines, partner with stakeholders to deliver reliable analytics-ready datasets, and mentor junior engineers as needed.
- Design, develop and maintain robust ELT pipelines using Fivetran, dbt and Snowflake to transform and prepare data for analytics.
- Author, review and optimise complex SQL queries and dbt models to meet performance, accuracy and maintainability requirements.
- Implement Snowflake performance tuning and query optimisation strategies, including clustering, partitioning and resource monitor usage.
- Collaborate with product owners, data analysts and engineering teams to translate business requirements into data models and delivery plans.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for dbt and Snowflake deployments, preferably using Azure DevOps or similar tooling.
- Apply data modelling best practices (OLTP, OLAP, Data Vault 2.0) to design scalable, auditable data assets.
- Ensure data quality and observability by implementing testing, documentation and monitoring for dbt models and ingestion processes.
- Contribute to architectural decisions around data platform components, security and access patterns.
- Mentor and guide junior data engineers, perform code reviews, and promote engineering best practices across the team.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes to prevent recurrence.
Profile Requirements
For this position, we are looking for someone with:
- Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years overall experience in data engineering, with at least 56 years of hands‑on experience working with Snowflake and dbt; at least 6 years proven experience as a Snowflake Developer or in a similar role.
- Proven experience integrating and operating Fivetran (or similar ELT tools) with dbt and Snowflake for automated data ingestion and transformations.
- Advanced SQL expertise with experience authoring complex queries and optimising SQL for large-scale datasets.
- Strong Python skills for data processing, automation and orchestration tasks.
- Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, methodologies and data modelling techniques (OLTP, OLAP, Data Vault 2.0).
- Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for data transformations and deployments (Azure DevOps experience preferred).
- Proven experience with Snowflake performance tuning, query optimisation and cost‑conscious design.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills; able to work effectively in a fully remote team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead workstreams, mentor junior engineers and deliver outcomes in an agile environment.
Nice to have (optional)
- Experience with cloud provider services (AWS, Azure or GCP) and their integration with Snowflake.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience with orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect) for complex workflow management.
- Knowledge of data governance, lineage and metadata tooling (e.g., Collibra, Amundsen, Great Expectations).
- Experience working in regulated industries or with sensitive/PII datasets (compliance‑aware data practices).
