Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for the Hardware, Infrastructure, and Virtualization (HIVE) team. This remote US role focuses on Compute Linux kernel, virtualization, and hardware platforms in Akamai's datacenters.

The candidate will enhance observability, mentor teammates, and develop scalable software and infrastructure, collaborating with cross-functional teams to prevent incidents and ensure high availability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience and a Bachelor's diploma in Computer Science or its equivalent.
• Advanced experience in Linux internals, system administration, and underlying hardware best practices.
• Advanced level experience with the Linux kernel, OS, KVM/QEMU, and nested virtualization.
• Expert level experience with designing, developing, and deploying software and infrastructure at scale.
• Advanced level experience in an engineering role, working with large scale distributed systems.
• Experience with SaltStack, Ansible, Kubernetes, Chef, or Puppet for managing infrastructure at scale.

Our Hardware, Infrastructure, and Virtualization (HIVE) team designs, develops, and manages applications and infrastructure that support Akamai's Compute products and services. We do this while maintaining Akamai's mission at the forefront of what we do: make life better for billions of people, billions of times a day.

Partner with the best

In this role, you will be at the forefront of Akamai Cloud hypervisor host technologies. The team is responsible for all of Akamai's bare-metal and VM hardware and software infrastructure platforms. You'll focus on Compute's Linux kernels, operating systems, KVM/QEMU virtualization layer, guest images, and working closely with HIVE's HW teams to ensure new hardware programs succeed in our datacenters.

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Possess advanced level experience with the Linux kernel, OS, KVM/QEMU, and nested virtualization.

• Have advanced level experience in an engineering role, working with large scale distributed systems
• Have experience with tools like SaltStack, Ansible, Kubernetes, Chef, or Puppet for managing infrastructure at scale.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $121,400 - $218,600/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
