Role Overview

The Senior Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager will partner with site‑level operations to execute company WHS policies, ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in Amazon’s processes.
Responsibilities
- Act as SME of local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon Safety Policies.
- Measure site performance against published requirements in safety policies, identify deficiency plans, and drive corrective actions.
- Ensure safety record keeping, data integrity, and provide Operations with accurate reporting and metrics.
- Deliver on‑time and quality projects to Operations.
- Deep‑Dive safety metrics and review of incident trends to justify resource allocation.
- Audit record‑keeping practices and Safety Database entries to ensure compliance with global safety standards.
- Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring methods.
- Manage and mentor the Safety Managers and Safety Associates.
- Engage Injury Prevention Specialists (IPS) and site leadership to drive long‑term strategic actions for incident reduction.
- Perform targeted Kaizen events in partnership with Operations teams based on identified risks.
- Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and competent under each policy.
- Audit the quality, delivery, and effectiveness of all required safety training.
- Review effectiveness of deployed safety tools and revise for continual improvement.
- Partner with corporate and regional safety personnel to leverage global best practices into NA network standards.
Additional Job Elements
- Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
- Stand/walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
- Work in an environment where noise level varies.
- Work in an environment subject to variable temperatures and weather.
- Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs).
- Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
- 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in people and performance management.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
- Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs.
Those without an adult First Aid, CPR, or AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross must obtain within 3 weeks of the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (preferred).
- Certified Safety Professional (preferred).
- Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic organization.
- Interest in long‑term career development through assignments in multiple FCs across the nation.
- Prior experience in a management development training program.
- Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff.
- Demonstrated experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
