To support this priority, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for partnering with the site level operations team for your designated site in order to execute company WHS policies and ensure compliance to all applicable local and regional regulations. By leveraging lean principles and Kaizen events, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in Amazon’s processes to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for our associates.

In this role, you must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with cross‑functional operations teams, and influence change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis. You must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will also instruct and train operations leadership and site WHS professionals in company EHS policies while assisting regional teams in incorporating our safety standards at their sites. Your experience working in safety programs and your relevant safety, environmental, and ergonomic knowledge in an operations environment will be crucial. You will develop and lead a team of safety managers and professionals at your site, creating and executing leadership development plans for your team. As a senior leader in the WHS organization, you will judge and assess safety talent to select appropriate bench strength for current and future business needs.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME of local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
• Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon Safety Policies.
• Measure site performance against published safety policy requirements, identifying and implementing corrective plans for deficiencies.
• Ensure safety record‑keeping and data integrity, providing Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
• Deliver on‑time and quality projects to Operations.
• Deep‑dive safety metrics and review incident data weekly and monthly to identify risk trends and justify resource allocation.
• Propose action plans to senior leadership based on trend analysis.
• Audit record‑keeping practices and Global Safety Database entries for compliance with global safety standards and local regulations.
• Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring methods.
• Manage and mentor the Safety Managers and Safety Associates at the site.
• Engage Injury Prevention Specialists (IPS) and Site Leadership to drive long‑term strategic actions for incident reduction.
• Perform targeted Kaizen events in partnership with Operations teams based on identified task risks.
• Train site leadership and associates in their responsibilities under each policy.
• Audit the quality, delivery, qualifications of trainers, and effectiveness of all required safety training.
• Review the effectiveness of deployed safety tools and revise them for continual improvement.
• Partner with corporate and regional field safety personnel to leverage global best practices into NA network standards.

Additional Job Elements

• Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
• Stand/walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
• Work in environments with varying noise levels.
• Work in environments with variable temperatures and weather (including outdoor loading departments).
• Continuously climb and descend stairs (for sites with stairs).
• Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.

Those that do not have an adult First Aid, CPR, or AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross must obtain it within 3 weeks of the start date.

Basic Qualifications

• CPR/First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain it within 3 weeks of start.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations, or relevant experience applicable to the role.
• 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in people and performance management.
• Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
• Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Certified Safety Professional preferred.
• Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic organization.
• Interest in long‑term career development through assignments in multiple business units across the nation.
• Prior experience in a management development training program.
• Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff.
• Demonstrated experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility in an organization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
