Job summary

LiquidPiston is seeking a Senior Engine Sealing Engineer to lead the sealing design for rotary engines, including Apex and Face Seals. You will apply tribology, materials science, and dynamic simulation to improve durability and performance under demanding conditions.

The role requires hands-on testing, collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams, and strong communication of complex results to stakeholders. A strong background in high-temperature engine components is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 5+ years in the design, development, and validation of ICE power cylinder components.
• Proficiency with advanced simulation tools such as FEA/CFD and ring dynamics software.
• Deep understanding of high-temperature materials science and coatings.

Responsibilities

• Lead rotary engine sealing system design, including Apex and Face Seals.
• Contribute to journal bearing design, material selection, and optimization.
• Apply tribology to minimize friction, optimize lubrication, and mitigate wear.
• Develop 1D/3D dynamic models to analyze seal motion and leakage.
• Specify and qualify materials for high-temperature, high-pressure contact.
• Utilize FEA to assess thermal distortion and structural integrity of seals.
• Design and analyze engine test plans focusing on seal performance and durability.
• Troubleshoot sealing-related engine performance issues from dyno tests.
• Communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
