Job summary

Applied Materials seeks a researcher for the Gloucester, MA SIMS Lab to characterize dopant profiles and optimize implant processes. You will collect data, analyze results, and drive improvements in diffusion depths across multiple recipes.

This role emphasizes hands‑on metrology, collaboration with engineers, and training teammates. Strong candidates will have an advanced degree and proven experience with ion beam techniques and state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering or related
• Direct knowledge of ion beam interactions with materials and defects
• Hands‑on experience operating advanced metrology instruments; semiconductor industry experience a plus

Responsibilities

• Characterize dopant profiles and diffusion depths for implant recipes
• Prioritize SIMS lab activities to meet internal/external requirements
• Develop SOPs for tool operation, qualification and performance tracking
• Drive advanced SIMS techniques for emerging devices and tech inflections
• Collaborate with engineering on DOE, root-cause analysis and process problems
• Build SPC and tool-health monitoring; lead continuous improvement in SIMS lab
