Job summary

Lumilens is seeking a Principal Engineer, Silicon Photonics in San Jose to shape product direction, translate customer needs into technical requirements, and lead cross-functional execution from concept through validation. The role requires deep expertise in packaged silicon photonics, including optical engine integration, assembly, and manufacturing considerations for next-gen interconnect products.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a principal-level technical leadership role.
• Deep expertise in silicon photonics design and performance trade-offs.
• Direct experience with packaged silicon photonics or optical engine development.
• Ability to define product requirements and drive execution across hardware, firmware, software, and manufacturing.
• Experience with test plans (EVT, DVT, SVT) for optical systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead product definition for next-gen optical interconnects balancing performance, manufacturability and cost.
• Serve as primary technical interface with customers, foundry partners, and suppliers.
• Drive cross-functional alignment among internal teams and partners.
• Perform optical link budget analysis using simulation and modeling.
• Translate system goals into actionable requirements across silcon photonics, electronics, firmware and software.
• Guide development of packaged silicon photonics solutions with attention to packaging and assembly constraints.
• Define comprehensive testing strategy and be hands-on in lab validation.
