Job summary

Odys Aviation is seeking a Sr. Power Electronics Hardware Engineer in California to design high-density SiC-based propulsion power electronics for Laila and Alta programs.

You will drive motor drives, power stages, and DC/DC converters from concept to flight hardware, balancing electrical, thermal, and certification targets. You will own schematic/layout, gate-drive and protection schemes, magnetics, and EMI/EMC strategies, while collaborating with controls to deliver robust, testable hardware

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years designing high-power motor drives or power converters.
• Expertise in SiC MOSFET-based converter design and high-voltage protection.
• Strong schematic capture and PCB layout for high-voltage systems.
• Thermal management experience and thermal simulations.
• EMI/EMC design and mitigation experience.
• Hands-on lab skills with HV test equipment and safety practices.
• Familiarity with PMSM drive topologies and hardware for FOC.

Responsibilities

• Architect SiC-MOSFET motor drives, active rectifiers, and DC/DC converters.
• Lead schematic capture and PCB layout for high-voltage power stages.
• Design gate-drive circuitry, protection strategies, and dead-time control.
• Design magnetic components including inductors and transformers.
• Develop DC-link architecture and capacitor banks with ripple budgeting.
• Lead thermal design of converter assemblies and cooling integration.
• Design EMI/EMC mitigation to meet DO-160 requirements.
• Define protection architecture including overvoltage/current/temperature.
• Specify and qualify power semiconductors and magnetics; perform derating analyses.
• Lead board bring-up, testing, and converter characterization.
• Collaborate with controls on sensor placement and interfaces.
• Produce DO-254/DO-160/ARP4754B aligned design documentation.
