Job summary

NSC Staffing is seeking an Advanced Shipfitter / Fabricator for Newport News, VA. You will read blueprints, perform multi-pass SMAW welding, and assemble complex ship components in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include fabricating hull parts, using torches, operating grinders and needle guns, and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards while maintaining quality and safety on site.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of commercial or naval experience as a shipfitter (first-class).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
• Experience in multi-pass SMAW welding and ship component fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Welding & fabrication using SMAW in vertical/overhead positions per specs.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints and join hull components.
• Fabricate, lay off parts, and assemble structural ship components to spec.
• Use torches for heating and finishing fabrication work.
• Operate grinders/needle guns to finish work and remove excess material.
• Follow OSHA regulations and safety standards in shipbuilding environments.
• Erect and install hull inserts, plates, decks, bulkheads and other structures.
