Job summary

NiSource seeks a Senior Settlement Analyst to support data-driven settlement processes and regulatory reporting. You will work with MISO market data, reconcile shadow settlements, and prepare pro-forma calculations and testimony.

Role requires advanced Excel, Power BI, and strong communication; you will collaborate across ES&O and Accounting to optimize processes and ensure SOX-compliant controls.

Qualifications

  • Requires a 4 year degree in business discipline.
  • 4-6 years experience in Finance, Accounting, Regulatory or related field.
  • Knowledge of PC applications.
  • Understanding of Finance and Accounting principles and relationship of balance sheet, income statement, cash flow.
  • Knowledge of MISO charge types and settlement statements.
  • Experience with third-party shadow settlement system to verify MISO charges/credits.
  • Strong data analysis, trend detection and recommendation abilities.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong Excel (pivot, macros) and ability to create Power BI dashboards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; presentation skills.
  • Experience with prompts for Copilot is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with regulatory data gathering, schedules, and pro-forma calculations/testimony.

  • Document work thoroughly to ensure quality and traceability.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements to boost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with ES&O and Accounting to develop cross-functional solutions.

Senior Settlement Analyst
Essential Functions
  • Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities; compares data from different sources to draw conclusions; uses effective approaches for choosing course of action or developing appropriate solutions; takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.   • Compiles, organizes and formats data, including qualitative analysis required for internal and external reporting. Identifies and researches reporting issues, provides recommendation, assists with adoption of new reporting requirements. (Reporting)
  • Recognizes situations where the regulatory framework and rate case outcomes drive our business; supports regulatory initiatives by gathering data and preparing regulatory schedules and/or preparing pro-forma calculations, testimony and data requests; assists with review and analysis of regulatory documents; appreciates the application of the regulatory construct to our business.   • Understands terminology and developments related to the MISO and the market settlement process; knows how to reconcile the third-party shadow settlement system and financial statements; able to design test scripts and to perform testing of internal controls for Sarbanes-Oxley purposes; knows when to and can apply technical knowledge to processes, procedures, and tasks.   • Demonstrates a working knowledge of financial statements, metrics and measures, and key strategic business initiatives; understands and utilizes economic and industry data as it relates to job responsibilities. (Business Acumen)
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the MISO transmission and energy markets. Has a general knowledge of other departments within the electric part of Energy Supply and Optimization (ES&O) organization. Collaboratively develops solutions between and within ES&O and Accounting and Rates; Verify and prepare documentation related to the cash settlement process for MISO. Required Qualifications For Position
  • Requires 4 year degree in business discipline
  • 4-6 years experience in Finance, Accounting, Regulatory or a related field
  • Requires knowledge of PC applications
  • Knowledge proficiency of Finance and Accounting principles, including the relationships between segments of the financial statements (e.g. balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow)
  • Knowledge proficiency of MISO charge type, including the relationship between segments of the settlement statements (e.g. MISO markets, NIPSCO resources, NIPSCO load)
  • Operation of third-party shadow settlement system to understand, report and verify charges and credits submitted by MISO
  • Analyze information from a variety of sources to detect trends, associations, cause-effect relationships and other anomalies and make recommendations.
  • Effectively manages time to ensure deadlines are met and quality is achieved.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel pivot tables, macro creation, and statistical analysis, as well as, data scrubbing and creation of Power BI dashboards or other Data Analytics tools.
  • Presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with writing prompts for use in Copilot
