Senior Services Program Worker - Extra-Help Senior Services Program Worker

Position Overview

This recruitment is establishing a current eligible list for both full-time and Extra-Help vacancies. Note that Extra-Help positions are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week and do not include county benefits. The pay rate for Extra-Help is $18.40 per hour.

Typical Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing public information and education materials
  • Compiling reports with data collection and basic statistics
  • Conducting public workshops, seminars, outreach, and education activities
  • Scheduling and performing program counseling and advocacy, collaborating with senior legal services and other senior programs
  • Investigating complaints and resolving issues for senior citizens in facilities
  • Conducting facility visits to ensure compliance and residents' rights
  • Counseling clients, performing follow-ups, maintaining files, and detecting fraud or abuse
  • Developing computerized recordkeeping systems and attending training sessions
  • Recruting, training, and evaluating volunteers
  • Maintaining confidentiality of client information and complaints
  • Ensuring outreach services are provided countywide
  • Referring clients to appropriate agencies and assisting with program planning
  • Participating in special projects and identifying issues for corrective action
Minimum Qualifications

Two or more years of experience working directly with volunteers, seniors, or community groups. Alternatively, thirty (30) college semester units in social welfare, social/human services, gerontology, sociology, or related fields may substitute for one year of experience.

Education

Equivalent to high school graduation.

Licenses/Certifications

Registration with the State as a HICAP Counselor within six months of hire if performing HICAP functions. Certification with the State Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman within six months if performing Ombudsman functions. Valid California driver’s license required.

  • Operate a computer and office equipment
  • Use hand-eye coordination frequently
  • Sit for extended periods and operate a motor vehicle regularly
  • Communicate effectively in person and by phone
  • Interview, resolve conflicts, analyze data, and respond to stressful situations
  • Maintain confidentiality and make presentations
  • Train volunteers and establish cooperative relationships
  • Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
  • Attend work regularly
