Job summary

AMD is seeking a Staff Systems Design Engineer in Austin, TX to drive post-silicon validation for EPYC and AMD Instinct products. You will champion scalable hardware/firmware solutions, conduct root-cause analysis, and support triage in post-silicon stages.

Qualifications

  • Post-silicon validation experience debugging OS, firmware, silicon, SoC/Platform HW.
  • Strong knowledge of system architecture, debugging and validation strategy.
  • Programming/scripting in C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python.
  • Experience with lab equipment including protocol/logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
  • Self-starter with clear written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Drive technical innovation to improve AMD’s validation capabilities, including tool and script development and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Debug issues found during bring-up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs.
  • Create test plans with multiple teams and ensure features are validated and optimized on time.
  • Collaborate with supporting technical teams to streamline workflows.
  • Engage in software/hardware modeling frameworks and automation.
  • Lead complex debug efforts for silicon findings to identify root cause and resolution.

The Role

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Staff Systems Design Engineer to join our growing team.

As a key contributor to the success of AMD’s product, you will be part of a leading team to drive and improve AMD’s abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry‑leading technologies to market. The Systems Design Engineering team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.

The Person

As a lead engineer in Systems Design Engineering, you will drive balanced, scalable, and automated solutions. In this high visibility position, your hardware and firmware systems engineering expertise will be necessary toward product development, root cause and resolution. Most of your day will be spent in post‑silicon validation activities supporting the EPYC and AMD instinct products, helping with triage and debug.

Key Responsibilities
  • Driving technical innovation to improve AMD’s capabilities across validation, including tool and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross‑functional technical initiatives.
  • Debugging issues found during the process, bring‑up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs.
  • Working with multiple teams to create test plans and performing execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time.
  • Working closely with supporting technical teams.
  • Engaging in other software/hardware modeling frameworks.
  • Leading complex debug efforts for silicon findings to identify root cause and resolution.
Preferred Experience
  • Several years of experience in post‑silicon validation roles involving debugging OS, firmware, silicon, SoC/Platform HW issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategy.
  • Programming/scripting skills (e.g. C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python).
  • Extensive experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Strong customer focus and experience with one of AMD's customer validation teams is a plus.
  • Experience in using automation frameworks for execution is a plus.
  • Strong analytical/problem‑solving skills and pronounced attention to details.
  • Clear communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Must be a self‑starter and able to independently drive tasks to completion.
Academic Credentials
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
