Job description

The Senior SEO Director is a dedicated search evangelist who owns organic search as a measured growth channel for AllCampus and its university partners. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for setting the direction for how AllCampus earns, protects, and grows organic visibility across corporate and partner websites, and for ensuring the team's capability and systems are in place to execute that strategy across the portfolio.

Search behavior is changing. Discovery increasingly happens in partnership with AI-driven systems like Google AI Overviews and answer engines, and a growing share of searches do not result in a traditional click. The Senior SEO Director is expected to lead through and beyond that shift, positioning partner content as a trusted source AI systems can surface and cite, while ensuring the channel continues to drive qualified lead generation and enrollment-supporting outcomes.

This individual must pair deep SEO expertise with strong business judgment, analytical experience, and clear communication. They should be able to translate complex SEO and AI search trends into practical business recommendations, defend prioritization decisions to leadership, and coach SEO specialists through both strategic and technical work. Candidates must have a passion for leading and nurturing a team of SEO subject matter experts, and an established record of strong feedback from clients, peers, and direct reports.

This position will report to the Associate Vice President of Digital Marketing. The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge and experience using SEO for lead generation, and proven experience owning and delivering on measurable individual, channel, and organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Search Strategy and Organic Visibility
  • Own organic search strategy across the portfolio or partner sites and AllCampus corporate sites, setting clear and defensible strategic priorities.
  • Translate SEO performance into business impact, including qualified leads, pipeline contribution, and enrollment-supporting outcomes, so non-SEO stakeholders can understand and act on the channel’s value.
  • Develop and maintain organic channel forecasts tied to enrollment cycle pacing, connecting projected traffic and keyword trajectory to inquiry volume targets and pipeline contribution. Use CRM data to identify deviations in performance and communicate proactively to act on opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Monitor the organic search competitive landscape across the partner portfolio, tracking competitor keyword positioning, content strategies, SERP changes, and domain authority trends, and translate those insights into proactive adjustments that protect and grow partner visibility.
  • Develop persuasive business cases for foundational and advanced SEO services with internal leadership and partners, and support new business pitches, contract renewals, and expanded scope conversations by translating organic performance data and competitive positioning into compelling storytelling.
  • Lead organic visibility strategy across AI-search, including Google AI Overviews, answer engines, and LLM platforms; developing AEO approaches that improve presence in featured snippets, ‘People Also Ask’ boxes, and other answer-oriented SERP features, with a focus on positioning partner content as a trusted source.
  • Ensure structured data and schema markup strategies, including FAQ, HowTo, Article, and Organization schemas, are applied across partner sites to strengthen readability and AI content comprehension, while monitoring how zero-click behavior is reshaping organic performance and proactively framing success metrics as the search landscape evolves.
  • Report on SEO channel effectiveness using web analytics and SEO platform data, including how performance is evolving across AI-driven search, and communicate findings to internal stakeholders and partners.
  • Collaborate closely with Content, Design, Analytics, PPC, Product, Engineering, Partner Success, and leadership teams to align SEO recommendations with business priorities and keep initiatives on time and on target.
  • This position supervises multiple levels of SEO specialists and is responsible for the coaching and mentoring of direct reports. Experience with goal setting, performance reviews, tech stack management, and capacity management is essential.
Execution and Quality Oversight
  • Direct the strategic planning and optimization of ongoing SEO initiatives across the portfolio of partner websites, including target keyword identification, link strategy, and content development, ensuring the team is executing against the overarching strategy.
  • Ensure the SEO team stays current on best practices, algorithm changes, AI search evolution, and emerging tools; translate meaningful developments into guidance for the team and the broader Marketing group.
  • Oversee the editorial and content marketing calendar for SEO initiatives, including content structures purpose-built for answer engines such as concise definitions, Q&A formats, and authoritative long‑form content. Work with content writers to produce SEO‑optimized copy, and compose or edit content independently when strategic need requires it.
  • Conduct technical site audits and present findings within AllCampus and to partners, incorporating AEO and AI readability assessments alongside traditional technical SEO findings.
  • Manage and advise on the SEO team's operating budget, including tool and platform spend, vendor relationships, and resource allocation, ensuring the team is equipped to deliver against targets.
  • Own the operational reporting cadence for the SEO channel, including weekly performance dashboards, monthly pacing reports, and long‑term trend analysis; translating data into clear, actionable insights that inform ongoing strategy adjustments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of SEO experience with at least 4 years in a related managerial role, with a focus on hiring, training, nurturing, and supporting all levels of a team.
  • Must have, at minimum, a 4‑year degree from an accredited institution. A focus in IT, design, marketing, statistics, or math is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience managing team financial planning, staffing plans, hiring plans, and resource mapping is ideal, but not required.
  • Ability to develop and present a persuasive argument for foundational and advanced SEO services, including the evolving value of AI search optimization.
  • Expert‑level understanding of search engine functionality, best‑practice SEO strategy and methodology, and a nuanced understanding of recent and historical changes in the industry, including the shift toward AI‑generated search experiences.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with AEO, AIO, and LLM citation optimization principles; ability to develop strategies that improve brand presence across AI‑powered answer platforms such as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Proficiency with relevant tools and analytics applications, including Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Moz, Ahrefs, Semrush, and similar SEO platforms. Familiarity with emerging AI search monitoring tools is a plus.
  • Working understanding of how AI‑driven search surfaces, including Google AI Overviews and answer engines, affect organic visibility, and a point of view on how to earn presence within them.
  • Strong working knowledge of structured data and schema markup, including FAQ, HowTo, Article, and Organization schemas, and how these signals influence AI content interpretation and surfacing.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools to scale SEO research, auditing, analysis, content support, and reporting across a multi‑client portfolio.
  • Google Analytics certification preferred, but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience developing novel reporting, managing and processing large data sets for insights, and forecasting channel and business‑level KPI performance.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail with experience using project management software (e.g., Jira, Asana, Trello, or similar platforms) in everyday work.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write concise, reasoned, and inspired content designed to improve organic and AI search performance, and to communicate strategy with authority to leadership and partner audiences.
  • Experience implementing successful technical and content‑focused SEO strategies for lead generation.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, or Google Workspace equivalents.
