Job summary

Preceptor Security Group is seeking a Senior ESS Engineer to lead design, execution, and delivery of advanced electronic security system projects. This role is hands-on and drives ownership from concept through commissioning.

You will collaborate with project managers, field teams, and leadership to ensure on-time delivery, budget adherence, and high-quality results across VMS, access control, and IP-based infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in electronic security systems engineering.
• Experience with VMS, access control, IP-based security infrastructure, and system integration.
• Hands-on and able to work in both office and field environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, engineering, and technical execution for security projects (VMS, access control, cameras, infrastructure).
• Review drawings and specifications, perform takeoffs and design markups.
• Develop shop drawings, programming requirements, and system architecture.
• Support scheduling, coordination, and technical guidance for project teams.
• Perform and oversee system programming, testing, and commissioning.
• Drive quality control with internal punch lists and field validation.
• Assist with change orders including technical scope, pricing, and impacts.
• Assist with project closeout including as-builts, documentation and client training.
• Collaborate with subcontractors to ensure PSG standards.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in electronic security systems engineering
• Strong background in:
  • Video Management Systems (VMS)
  • Access Control Systems
  • IP-based security infrastructure
  • System Integration
  • Programming/coding (Prefferred)
• Experience with system design, programming, and commissioning
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate independently
• Experience working alongside project managers and field teams
• Willingness to be hands‑on and engaged in both office and field environments
