Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Staff Security Reliability Engineer to design, build, and operate reliable, secure infrastructure that underpins identity, access, endpoint, and shared platform services. You will own end-to-end infrastructure, enforce security by default, and enable teams to move fast with confidence.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ and requires in-office presence, with on-prem, hybrid, and cloud integrations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on infrastructure experience in high-reliability contexts.
• Experience running Security Infrastructure.
• Senior technical owner for design of on-prem/hybrid/cloud systems.
• Apply SRE principles with observability, automation, and incident learnings.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate reliable on-prem, hybrid, and product-adjacent environments.
• Establish standardized, secure-by-default infrastructure patterns.
• Own lifecycle of critical infrastructure platforms (provisioning, upgrades, recovery).
• Build infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, Chef, and Ansible.
• Mature identity-adjacent infrastructure including Entra and Azure patterns.
• Build observability, alerting, and incident response mechanisms.
• Automate high-toil workflows with guardrails and safe rollbacks.
• Translate incidents and reviews into durable fixes and patterns.
