Senior Security Officer (Armed)

MISSION STATEMENT:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Security Supervisor, the Senior Security Officer is responsible for performing all security and safety duties as assigned. Provide armed, uniformed security presence across St. Joseph’s Health campuses. Assess threats, respond promptly, and mitigate offenses against public order, life, and safety of colleagues, staff, patients, visitors, and others. Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and coordinate with law enforcement as needed. Additional duties may be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid NY State Armed Security Guard License (including firearms training and pistol permit) or active NY police officer status.
• Police officers must obtain security license and pistol permit within 6 months of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License required.
• IAHSS Basic Security Certification within one year of hire.
• FEMA IS-100c course within 90 days of hire.
• BLS Certification within 3 weeks of hire.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 5 years in armed security, healthcare security, or law enforcement.
• Law enforcement experience preferred.
• Must pass psychiatric evaluation prior to hire.
• Knowledge of NY Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.
• Understanding of use of force continuum in security settings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exposure to adverse conditions such as noise, odors, temperatures, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Physical activity includes frequent close work, sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and patient handling.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain department equipment safely and operate all equipment including vehicles.
• Perform security rounds and respond to calls, de-escalate violence, and handle emotionally disturbed persons.
• Conduct thorough investigations, document incidents, and prepare reports.
• Identify hazards and initiate corrective actions, alert supervisors.
• Work effectively with diverse groups and utilize security systems.

• Complete detailed reports of investigations.
• Use surveillance and access control systems to document incidents.
• Maintain confidentiality of investigations and sensitive information.

Pay Range: $25.00 - $35.70 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Pay may vary by location.
