Job description

I’m looking for a seriously good Security Engineer.

Not someone who has spent their career implementing security products.

Not necessarily an “AI Security Engineer” either.

I’m looking for someone who really understands Linux and complex infrastructure, but has built their career in security.

The sort of person who can look at a large Linux environment, understand how it actually works, identify where the interesting security problems are, and then engineer the solution themselves.

You might have come from infrastructure security, systems security, offensive security, DevSecOps or security software engineering. I'm deliberately keeping the background broad because the client is much more interested in how good you are technically than whether you've followed a particular career path.

Experience with bare metal, HPC, GPU infrastructure, large compute clusters or research environments would obviously be incredibly interesting, but I'm not making that a prerequisite.

What I do need is:
  • Genuine security engineering — you've built things, not just operated tools
  • Good programming/scripting ability
  • Breadth across security rather than being stuck in one narrow silo
  • The curiosity to get dropped into an unfamiliar technical environment and work out how to secure it

The environment itself is unusual.

Large-scale Linux and compute infrastructure, GPU workloads, proprietary supercomputing technology, machine learning and scientists doing advanced computational research.

And increasingly, there is another fascinating problem to solve: how do you safely introduce agentic AI systems and workflows into an environment like that?

This isn't an AI role disguised as security. They need an exceptional security engineer first. But if you've already worked on agent security, autonomous systems or securing AI infrastructure, I'd especially like to hear from you.

I'm recruiting across New York City, Pittsburgh and Durham, NC.

It's hybrid, Tuesday–Thursday onsite.

I’m deliberately not putting a salary figure on this post because the compensation range is unusually broad and depends heavily on the individual. What I can say is that compensation is exceptional, with a significant base salary plus sign-on and year-end bonuses. Relocation and immigration assistance are also available.

If you're the sort of engineer who enjoys getting underneath systems and solving security problems that don't necessarily have an off-the-shelf answer.

Equally, if you're reading this thinking “I know exactly who Tom should speak to”, I'd appreciate the introduction.
