Job summary

HackerOne is seeking a Senior Security Engineer, Detection and Response to design and deliver detection and response capabilities across a modern, cloud-native environment. You will work with AI-powered tooling, develop automation, and lead incident response to improve resilience.

The role emphasizes building detection across cloud, SaaS, and endpoints, with a focus on data-driven decision making and AI-first approaches. Remote work is available for U.S.-based candidates within targeted regions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in detection and response, security engineering, or software engineering with a security focus.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with proficiency in Python, Go, Ruby, or similar languages, and production code experience.
• Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred) including services like CloudTrail, GuardDuty, and VPC flow logs.
• Experience with log aggregation and analysis platforms (Datadog, Splunk, ELK) and endpoint detection tools (SentinelOne, CrowdStrike).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain detection-as-code across cloud, SaaS, endpoints, and identity systems.
• Build automated investigation and response workflows to replace manual runbooks.
• Develop and deploy AI/LLM-powered tooling to accelerate investigations.
• Lead and participate in incident response, applying first principles solving to root causes.
• Partner with engineering to expand logging and observability.
• Improve detection quality by analyzing alert performance and feedback loops.
• Identify gaps in visibility and translate problems into detection solutions.
• Adapt to evolving threats and priorities to maintain momentum.
