Job summary

Altruist is seeking a Principal Security Engineering / Security Architect to craft secure-by-design architecture across cloud, apps, and identity platforms. You will define patterns that scale a self-clearing broker-dealer securely and lead encryption and zero-trust initiatives.

The role is hybrid with three days per week onsite in San Francisco FiDi or Culver City. You will partner across Engineering, Cloud, and IT to embed security into the development lifecycle and operate in a regulated

Qualifications

• 10+ years in security with architecture or senior engineering focus.
• Deep experience securing AWS and Kubernetes at scale.
• Strong application security and threat-modeling background.
• Knowledge of cryptography and key management.
• Experience defining zero-trust and identity architecture.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Fluency with modern tech stacks (Java, Spring, Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS).
• Excellent communication, ownership, resilience, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in regulated environments (SEC/FINRA, fintech, or broker-dealer).

Responsibilities

• Own security architecture and reference patterns across AWS, Kubernetes, and Java/Spring platform.
• Lead security design reviews and threat modeling for new products and services.
• Define standards for encryption, key management, identity and zero trust, network segmentation, and service-to-service authz.
• Drive encryption strengthening program and cloud guardrails.
• Embed security into SDLC and infrastructure by default by partnering with Engineering, Cloud, and IT.
• Advise on security architecture for strategic initiatives and framework alignment.
