Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Developer for the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. You will help shape the technical direction, design and implement new search features, and resolve complex bugs to deliver fast, scalable search experiences.

Join a globally distributed team that collaborates via email, GitHub, Zoom, and Slack, coding in modern Java and driving innovations across data stores and AI-assisted development.

Qualifications

• Experience in search or vector databases and scalable systems.
• Familiarity with HNSW, IVF, or similar indexing algorithms.
• Strong Java fundamentals and concurrent programming knowledge.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive projects end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to deliver industry-leading search with speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch features and bug fixes; potentially invent new algorithms.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focusing on vector search capabilities.
• Champion Elasticsearch search relevance and guide improvements based on data and instincts.
• Engage with open source communities and manage collaboration asynchronously.
