Search AI Company seeks a Principal Software Developer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team, a globally distributed group focused on a robust search experience and linking improvements to Lucene. This technical leader will shape design direction, implement new search features, and fix complex bugs.

You will lead initiatives to deliver industry-leading performance, contribute to building search capabilities at scale, and work with a team that values innovative algorithms and efficient code.

Qualifications

• Professional experience with search and vector databases, using HNSW/IVF or similar algorithms on large-scale search platforms.
• Strong command of core Java and standard data structures, with exposure to concurrency primitives and functional features.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver a leading search engine with speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch full time, build new features and fix bugs, and implement new algorithms as needed.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities in Elasticsearch.
• Become an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance and drive improvements based on data and intuition.
• Engage with global community members on issues and PRs, triage and hand off work as needed.
• Write idiomatic modern Java—Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java.
