Job summary

Muck Rack is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Search & AI to build and evolve customer-facing search experiences and the backend systems that power them. You’ll work across the stack, with emphasis on frontend and collaboration with Product and Design to deliver trustworthy, scalable search.

You’ll prototype and ship AI-powered features, optimize indexing and retrieval, and contribute to data pipelines using Elasticsearch, Kafka, Celery, and MySQL.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production software.
• Experience across frontend and backend systems and delivering features end-to-end.
• Proficiency with Python and Django or a comparable web framework.
• Experience building polished, maintainable Vue.js user interfaces.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or similar search technology.
• Ability to balance delivery speed with long-term quality in complex systems.
• Experience diagnosing production issues and improving reliability.
• Experience with TypeScript in large codebases.
• Experience with design systems or shared component libraries.
• Willingness to adapt working hours for overlap with US time zones.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver customer-facing search features across frontend and backend.
• Build AI-powered product experiences end to end, including services and UI.
• Develop intuitive UIs with Vue while supporting Python/Django services.
• Design and improve search, indexing, and retrieval across large data sets.
• Maintain features and data workflows using Elasticsearch, Kafka, Celery, and MySQL.
• Make technical trade-offs balancing UX, speed, reliability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to deliver high-quality experiences.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability and observability.
• Participate in on-call and incident response rotations.
