Job summary

Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans seeks a Senior Life Support Systems Technician (Sea Lions) to monitor the Sea Lion LSS system, ensure water quality operations, and keep exhibit systems compliant with USDA/APHIS and AZA requirements.

Reporting to the Curator of Carnivores and Hoofstock, this role develops SOPs, trains Sea Lion Keepers, coordinates with veterinary staff, and supports welfare assessments while maintaining safety and high standards of animal care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in biology or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of paid experience in a zoological facility or related field.
• AZA accreditation in a facility is preferred.
• Care of zoological exhibits with marine mammals focus.
• Advanced plumbing, construction, and animal enclosure work.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily life support and water quality operations.
• Mentor Sea Lion area keepers and develop SOPs for LSS/WQ.
• Ensure compliance with LSS/WQ policies and regulations.
• Coordinate with Curator and veterinary staff on health and welfare.
• Support budgeting and procurement related to LSS/WQ equipment.
