Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Software Development Engineer III for the Resilience Infrastructure and Solutions (RIS) team.

You will design and build large-scale distributed systems to protect AWS workloads across Regions, contributing to high availability during active events. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product managers, and influence architectural decisions while delivering reliable, scalable software.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end‑to‑end design, implementation, and delivery of software systems spanning multiple features across the full development lifecycle, ensuring solutions are well‑architected, extensible, and maintainable.
• Own your team's architectural direction by evaluating trade‑offs across scalability, performance, security, and maintainability, and guide future technology choices that align with business goals.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including product managers, technical program managers, and partner engineering teams to define requirements, align on system design, and deliver integrated solutions.
• Coach and mentor engineers on your team and across related teams, driving adoption of engineering best practices and raising the quality bar for code organization, clarity, and documentation.
• Identify opportunities to simplify existing systems and reduce technical debt, leveraging generative AI tools and industry innovations where appropriate to improve team productivity and solution quality.
