CPS, Inc. in Zion, IL is seeking an innovative coatings leader responsible for innovation and development of waterborne coatings for OEM and consumer use.

The role emphasizes leading new product development and advancing toward a Technical Leadership position. You will apply expert knowledge in acrylic, epoxy, urethane, and related chemistries, manage cross-functional projects, mentor teams, and drive commercialization from concept to scale-up.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ technical product development experience in coatings.
• At least 4 years of technical supervisory or leadership experience with a diverse workforce.
• M.S. in Chemistry or equivalent; strong knowledge of organic chemistry required.

Responsibilities

• Lead new product development efforts for waterborne coatings across primer, basecoat, and topcoat systems.
• Develop and execute project plans, manage timelines, and allocate resources across R&D teams.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, QA, marketing, and external scientists to commercialize innovations.
• Mentor and lead cross-functional teams; drive continuous learning and process improvements.

Job description

This role will be doing innovation and developing new waterborne coatings systems for OEM and Consumer use. Key role in the company will be leading new product development efforts and has the opportunity to grow into a Technical Leadership role! You should have an expert level of technical knowledge with a strong track record of product and process development, innovation, and commercialization in coating technologies. You must also possess strong, demonstrated competencies and experience in project management accompanied by people and organizational leadership skills.

Technology Knowledge:

• Expertise in broad ranges of coating chemistries particularly acrylic, epoxy, urethane, polyaspartics and siloxanes, etc.
• Expertise in application and testing. Formulation science for various coasting systems of primer, basecoats, topcoat systems for liquid waterborne, solventborne and 2K coatings along with expert understanding of DIY, Contractor, and OEM Coatings.
• Strong command on analytical methods and structure property relationship.
• Expert understanding of manufacturing process and product development.

Technical Leadership:

• Action Oriented - ability to make strategic decisions (technical and staff utilization) and influence leaders and scientist to execute those initiatives while managing business strategy and value creation.
• Demonstrated skillset and track record in creating an environment to scout new ideas and innovation.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute project plan - time management, prioritization, managing the projects and R&D projects / teams and measuring progress.

Technical Experience and Education:

• Must possess a strong knowledge of organic chemistry, or related science field.

• Must be computer literate.
