Job summary

Applegate Research & Development is seeking a Scientist/Associate Senior Scientist/Senior Scientist in Bedminster, NJ, with remote eligibility. The role leads product and process development from concept to commercialization, partnering with Marketing, Regulatory, and Manufacturing to deliver innovative meat products.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years in CPG R&D, strong food science knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple projects while communicating effectively with senior leadership.

Qualifications

• BS in Food Science, Meat Science, Food/Chemical Engineering, or related discipline; equivalent education may be considered.
• 6+ years of progressive R&D or product development experience within CPG; meat or protein product development preferred.
• Advanced understanding of food/meat science principles, including formulation, ingredient functionality, processing, and sensory evaluation.
• Cross-functional leadership and influence across Marketing, Sales, Regulatory, Quality, and Manufacturing.
• Willingness to travel for plant trials, exhibitions, and customer meetings; EST/CST time-zone work.
• Applicants must not require sponsorship for a work visa and must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Independently lead Innovation, Renovation, & Business Continuity projects from concept through commercialization.
• Pilot runs, plant trials, and production start-ups translating bench development to manufacturing.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration to align product design, feasibility, regulatory, claims, and commercialization objectives.
• Drive innovation using research, new ingredients, packaging tech, trends, and competitive activity.
• Plan and conduct sensory evaluations and interpret results for product/process improvements.
• Maintain documentation and R&D systems; ensure data accuracy and project visibility.
• Support regulatory, quality & food safety requirements with USDA/FDA knowledge.
• Assist budget tracking and allocation for R&D activities.
• Synthesize technical information for stakeholders and mentor junior staff.
