Job summary

Merck is seeking an Associate Principal Scientist, Engineering to lead process development, scale-up, and technology transfer for late-stage small molecule manufacturing. The role emphasizes QRM, DOE, and data analytics to ensure robust, compliant processes and reliable supply.

You will collaborate across manufacturing, QA, regulatory, and external partners while mentoring junior scientists and driving process improvements for commercial products.

Qualifications

• PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field with 4+ years industrial experience after PhD.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, scale-up, and commercialization of small molecule drug substance manufacturing processes.
• Design process characterization studies to define operating ranges for commercial production.
• Apply QRM, QbD and DOE to develop robust control strategies.
• Lead technology transfer to pilot and full-scale manufacturing sites.
• Support process validation, continued process verification, and regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate across Manufacturing, Process Research, Quality, Regulatory and external partners.
• Mentor junior scientists and engineers; foster cross-functional teamwork.
• Drive innovation using advanced process technologies and data analytics.
