Job summary

AbbVie in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Senior Scientist I in Exploratory Target Generation within Protein Sciences at the CRC site. You will help shape early program design for Immunology/Neuroscience, expressing complex proteins and antigens to support exploratory studies.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D./M.S./B.S. with extensive experience in protein biochemistry and mammalian expression.
  • Hands-on mammalian culture, transfection, expression profiling and data interpretation.
  • Strong molecular biology skills and experience with sequencing and construct design.
  • Proven publication record and ability to work across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Engage early in exploratory target generation for Immunology/Neuroscience.
  • Express recombinant antigens and cytokines for studies.
  • Design and produce soluble/membrane protein targets with stability.
  • Collaborate with Immunology/Neuroscience teams and vendors.
  • Deliver multiple projects in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting.
  • Maintain organized records and timely material delivery.
  • Communicate findings clearly to scientific and non-scientific leaders.
  • Coordinate with CROs to produce high-quality antigens.

A significant research background, evidenced by a track record of publications, presentations, and scientific accomplishments, is highly desirable.

KeyResponsibilities:
  • Strategically engaged at the early exploratory stages of target selection within theImmunology andNeuroscience therapeutic areas
  • Recombinantprotein expressionofantigensand cytokinessupporting exploratory Immunology and Neuroscience therapeutic areas
  • Innovatively design and produce soluble and membrane protein targets with enhanced stability for functional studies and antibody discovery
  • Collaborationwith Immunology and Neuroscience colleagues asrepresentativeof Protein Sciences,fosteringthe generation of innovative ideas and solutions
  • Contribute to scientific excellence throughdedication to multiple projectssimultaneously, in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Demonstration of strongorganizational and record keepingskills,ensuringtimely delivery of requested material
  • Clearly and effectively explain research findings and strategies,prioritizing transparency
  • Collaborate with protein vendors and Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to secure,produce, and evaluatehigh-quality antigens
  • Cultivate innovative problem-solving by generating original technical ideas and responding to scientific, regulatory, and competitive developments
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of relevant publications pertaining totechnologicaladvancements, with an eye towards improvingour workflows
Qualifications
  • Ph.D., M.S. or B.S.in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology or relateddisciplines with typically 0-4 (Ph.D), 8-10 (M.S.), or 10-12+ (B.S.) years of experience
  • Hands-on experience withmammalian suspension cell culture(HEK293 and CHO preferred)transient transfection, harvest and expression profiling is required
  • Strongmolecular biology skillsand experience with sequencing toolsand construct designisrequired(Geneious,Genedata)
  • Experienceusingand interpretingstandard protein analytical techniques (SDS-PAGE, Western blotting,BCA assays, endotoxin readings, size exclusion chromatography) is required
  • Experience with a broad spectrum of protein purification techniques (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion chromatography,etc), preferably using AKTA instrumentation is a plus
  • Experience applying AI/ML workflows to improve laboratory workflows is desired
  • Expertise in navigating and managing relationships with different protein vendors and CROs, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines, is a plus
  • Experience usingGeneDataBiologics is a plus
  • Strong Immunology and/or Neuroscience background is a plus
  • Experience inprotein expression from e. coli is a plus
  • Proven research excellence demonstrated through a strong track record of publications, presentations and scientific achievements
  • Demonstrated ability toactively participate and collaborate across cross-functional teams
