Job Description

AbbVie is searching for a highly motivated Scientist I to join our Analytical Development team at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. The team is responsible for the development, qualification, and execution of analytical methods to provide product and process understanding for biological entities from discovery through commercial stages.

The successful candidate will be part of the Biomolecular Interaction Group within the Analytical Development Department. This group focuses on method development and implementation of various immunoassays to monitor process impurities and assess potency of AbbVie’s biologics to support product and process development for early‑phase, late‑phase, and commercial programs. Techniques employed include ELISAs for monitoring and detecting process‑related impurities; surface plasmon resonance using Biacore for assessment of antigen binding and Fc receptor binding; and qPCR to measure residual DNA and mycoplasma levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sample preparation involving excellent pipetting skills
  • Performance of enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) to monitor impurities and assess antigen binding
  • Basic data acquisition and statistical analysis with clear documentation in electronic lab notebooks
  • Reporting results to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Assist with method development and lab equipment maintenance
Qualifications
  • BS or equivalent education in Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering or related discipline and 10+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry; MS and 8+ years experience; PhD and 0+ years experience.
  • Industry experience in method development, qualification, validation, and method transfer
  • Knowledge of ELISA technology, including interpretation and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organization, and multitasking skills
  • Hardworking and motivated to drive both efficiency and quality
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, and handling of materials

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
