Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a motivated scientist to join the Biologics CMC Developability Team, developing and characterizing drug product formulations for biologics in clinical trials. You will apply biophysical analyses to support early-stage candidate assessment and help shape stable manufacturing processes.

The role requires the ability to manage multiple projects, challenge the status quo, and solve problems independently while documenting results meticulously in electronic notebooks.

Qualifications

  • Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering or related field with industry experience.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical biologics and related analytical methods and instruments.
  • Strong communication and scientific writing abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in multiple analytical techniques and adjust protocols as needed.
  • Generate precise, reliable data and place results in scientific context.
  • Learn new experimental techniques and manage changing priorities.
  • Troubleshoot issues with experiments and instruments.
  • Interpret data and note deviations for project decisions.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives and contribute to workflow improvements.

Job Description
Purpose

The Development Sciences Biologics Drug Product Development organization within AbbVie develops and characterizes drug product formulations and manufacturing processes to provide clinical dosage forms to enable the development of AbbVies pipeline. AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated person to join the Biologics CMC Developability Team. Our team utilizes start-of-the-art biophysical and analytical instrumentation to support the early-stage assessment of candidates coming out of the Discovery pipeline with the opportunity to influence the design and development of stable drug product formulation and manufacturing processes for biologics used in clinical trials.

The primary responsibilities of this role include performing efficient biophysical analytical assessments of candidate molecules in a laboratory environment, documenting results in an electronic notebook system in an organized manner, contributing to cross-functional initiativesinthe development of cutting-edge predictive molecular models,andidentifying ways to improveexisting workflows. The role requires an individual capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, challenging the status quo, and independent problem-solving.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in multipleanalyticaltechniques and appropriately modify protocols, as required, to suit the changing needs of research/development sciences
  • Independently generate precise, reliable,and reproducible data in a timely manner
  • Place data in proper scientific context by consulting relevant literature
  • Learn and understand new experimental techniques
  • Respondto changing priorities and short lead times for multiple tasks; identify problems and work toward solutions
  • Data interpretation, criticallyassesscollectedresultsandnotepotential deviations
  • Data analysis, using in-house and self-developed tools to expedite routine workflows and facilitate rapid project turnaround times
  • Troubleshootissues encountered duringexperimentationand while using scientificinstruments
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree, or equivalent education, with typically 3 or more years experienceORMasters Degree or equivalent education (no additional experience) in the field of chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, bioengineering,or related disciplines with industry experience.
  • Prior experience withpharmaceuticalbiologics and related analytical methods, instruments, and software(HPLC, CE-SDS, icIEF, DSF, DSC, viscometers,Empower,etc.)is required.
  • Experience with coding (Python)would be advantageous.
  • Excellent oral communication skills in a scientific setting as well as sound technical writing and documentation competencies.
  • Must be a strong communicator, team player,curious,andopen to suggestions/experimentation for improvement.
